Tata Harrier EV Spied Testing

Tata Harrier EV Spied Testing

Tata Motors is planning to expand its footprint by bringing in new electric cars based on the existing ICE cars like the Harrier EV.

In the latest spotting, the Tata Harrier EV was seen testing on the highway. Tata Motors is the market leader when it comes to electric cars. Its strategy of converting its regular models into electric cars has worked wonders. Essentially, it leverages the success and demand of the regular ICE cars and offers an electric version of the same. The Nexon EV, Tiago EV, Tigor EV and Punch EV are prime examples of that. Next in the line could be the large Harrier EV.

Tata Harrier EV Spied Testing

This post comes from autojournal_india on Instagram. The video captures a heavily camouflaged SUV performing test runs on the highway. As per the description of the post and the visuals, we can confirm that this is the upcoming Harrier EV. Note that Harrier is a large SUV from the Indian auto giant which is quite popular among the masses. Hence, the aim is to leverage that popularity and bring it to the electric realm as well. The SUV is under a thick cover, barely exposing any details. Still, the tall-boy stance is unmistakably Harrier. There is a roof-mounted spoiler and prominent wheel arches. The side steps enhance the ingress and egress characteristics.

Being a large SUV, the Tata Harrier EV is bound to get a large battery pack. Hence, it could carry a battery with a capacity of somewhere around 60 kWh. While the official details are not out yet, we also expect a dual-motor AWD version in addition to a single-motor 2WD variant. That will lend it some great off-roading capabilities. In order to attract customers, a driving range of around 500 km is almost necessary. The instant torque of electric motors will ensure great performance regardless of the size of the SUV. More details will arrive closer to the launch.

Our View

Tata Motors wants to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to electric cars. It has been at the top since the first EV. The market is surely catching up and the next couple of years will see numerous new EVs entering the market from various other manufacturers. But Tata will keep its onslaught of EVs going with plans of Harrier EV and Safari EV very much in tact. Apart from that, we will also see the CURVV EV launch soon. Talking about the future, Tata Motors already showcased the Avinya EV, which represents the next-gen electric cars from the Indian auto giant. I can see exciting times ahead for the Tata loyalists.
