Tata Motors is all set to launch an all-new SUV, the Harrier, based on the same platform as that of a Land Rover Discovery, in India during the month of January next year.

Ahead of its official launch, Tata Motors is going to showcase this urban softroader to prospective customers at a number of different public location across India.

The public viewings of the Tata Harrier in India will commence from 18th December. These will continue up to 6th January, the time around which we can expect this SUV to make its official debut in India.

The Harrier, even before its launch, has been the talk of the motown in India since it made its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo in the month of February this year.

The H5X (Harrier Concept) was the showstopper at the event. This was primarily because of its outrageous design and the prospect of Tata Motors launching a production vehicle based on that.ย

In its final production iteration, the Harrier resembles the H5X concept to a great extent. And this is a very positive thing for Tata Motors as this vehicle is going to look completely different from the rest of the pack in the compact SUV segment.

Based on the modified D8 platform which has been borrowed from Land Rover, the Harrier is Tata Motors first vehicle to use the derived OMEGA underpinnings. In addition to its Land Rover pedigree, it also boasts of a suspension set-up which has been done by Tata Motors with inputs from Lotus.

The homegrown automaker has left no stone unturned when it comes to loading the Harrier with a whole array of features and creature comforts. It has to be one of the most premium vehicles ever made by the Tata Motors in India.

For powertrain, the Harrier used the same 2.0-litre multi-jet engine which powers the current iteration of the Jeep Compass SUV in India. However, for the Tata Harrier, this engine has been detuned to produce 140 BHP of power. That said, the torque figures still remain the same at 350 Nm.

The interesting thing to note here is that when the Harrier makes its debut in India during the month of January 2018, it will come as standard with a 6-speed manual transmission. Yes, there will be no automatic gearbox on offer with the Harrier.

That said, one must not fret as a 7-speed automatic gearbox will soon make it to the Tata Harrier line-up by the end of 2019. This gearbox has been sourced from Hyundai’s arsenal.

Tata Motors has already revealed in a way that the prices of the Harrier are going to fall in-between the range of INR 16 lakh to INR 21 Lakh (on-road). Through this, we can safely speculate that the ex-showroom prices of this SUV will stand somewhere in-between the range of INR 14 lakh to INR 19 Lakh.
