Falcon is not just the name of the bird which is known for its swift flight. Tata Motorsโ€™ new project to tighten the noose on competitors is also named as โ€˜Project Falconโ€™. The Tata Motors Project Falcon is aimed at giving fresh lease of life to the fading product line. Under this project, Tata will roll out a new hatchback and sub-four-metre saloon based on the companyโ€™s existing X1 platform.Currently, the X1 platform is used on the Vista and the Manza.

To prove that the upcoming cars are completely new, Tata has refrained from referring to ย Vista and Manza. It is unlikely, however, that Tata Motors will use โ€˜Falconโ€™, which is just the project designation, as the market name for the new cars.ย The latest news suggests that these cars may make their first public appearance during the Indian Auto Expo in February 2014. Let us look at these cars in detail-

The proposed hatchback is code namend โ€˜Falcon 4โ€™. It will be positioned to replace the current Vista. The car will have options of a 1.3-litre Fiat inspired Multijet diesel engine as well as a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol, based on the current Xeta engine. The second engine may be further developed to act as base motor in Tata Motors future engine range which will feature larger-capacity engines and direct fuel injection.

On the other hand, โ€˜Falcon 5โ€™ is a new sub-four-metre saloon. Its positioning will be above the existing Indigo eCS as it replaces Manza. As far as the engine is concerned, Falcon 5 will run using the Manzaโ€™s 89 bhp, Fiat-sourced 1.3 diesel engine. However, we also expect aย  1.2 turbo-petrol engine, which can produce more than more than 100 bhp of maximum power.

After their unveiling in 2014, the ‘Falcon 5’ sedan may be launched in the market a little earlier than the ‘Falcon 4’ hatchback. Once the pricing details are known, we will put together a more comprehensive review of the project. Keep following Car Blog India.
