Tata Punch Owner Fined For Stickers on Car

There are various news outlets that have reported this incident. As per these reports, this case emerges from Greater Noida. The image shows the clever owner trying to amuse himself and the other road users with cheeky word play. He adds ‘Sir’ before the name of the car, ‘ Punch’ and ‘Ji’ thereafter. When one reads this in one go, it is designed to mean ‘Sarpanch Ji’. Essentially, a Sarpanch is the head of the village. It is a position prevalent in most parts of the country. In addition, he has also pasted a ‘Gurjar’ sticker on the other side of the boot lid. This represents the community/caste he belongs to.

Under section 179 (1) of the Motor Vehicles Act, motorists are not allowed to have any stickers, caste-based symbols or messages on their vehicles. Thankfully, this Punch owner got away by paying just Rs 500. He should consider himself to be lucky that he learnt his lesson without burning a hole through his pocket.
