Tata Safari EV and Sierra EV Spotted

The Indian automobile giant is coming with a couple of electric SUVs to expand its EV portfolio even further

The Tata Sierra EV and Safari EV were recently spotted testing on public roads alongside each other. Tata Motors is the leading EV maker in the country. In the last few years, it has benefitted immensely from the EVs, which have been converted from the ICE models. In fact, most products in its lineup have an electric avatar, barring only a few. However, with the Sierra EV, things will be a bit different since it will first arrive as an electric car, with the ICE iteration to follow afterwards.

The specifics of this case stem from autovahaan on Instagram. The visuals capture two SUVs parked at an isolated location wearing thick camouflage. That is something very common ahead of the unveiling of any new car. In this video, the first vehicle to witness is the Sierra EV. We have seen the concept models at previous Auto Expo events in the past. Admittedly, despite the coverage, I am able to relate it to that concept model. At the front, it will carry a connected LED light strip across the face, sleek headlamps and a sturdy bumper. On the sides, the butch and boxy silhouette is apparent with flush-fitting door handles and prominent wheel arches.

Similarly, the second SUV we see here is the electric iteration of the Safari. We know that Safari is the 7-seat iteration of the Harrier in our market. We have already seen the Harrier EV launch a few weeks ago. Therefore, it is no surprise that the Safari EV will follow soon. It won’t have all that many distinctions in comparison to the Harrier EV, just like in the ICE guise. Nevertheless, the addition of the 3rd row will certainly add to the practicality. More details will emerge in the coming days.

My View

Tata Motors is in the process of expanding its portfolio across the electric vehicle segment in our market. Note that it already has the largest lineup when it comes to EVs. Also, being the market leader, it wants to maintain its position. However, as the competition in the country rises with more and more carmakers launching new vehicles, it needs to stay ahead of the curve. It will be interesting to watch out for how things shape up going forward.
