The Tata Tiago and Tiago NRG facelift takes design cues from the upcoming Tata Altroz. This is the first major update to the car after it was introduced in 2016.

The Tiago was first introduced in 2016 and since then, the car has only seen minor updates in the form of a few feature updates, a cross-hatchback variant called the Tiago NRG with some fancy body cladding and a sportier Tiago JTP. Tata has been working on a new Tiago for some while now and several spy shots of that has surfaced online as well. Finally, a comprehensively updated Tata Tiago facelift and Taigo NRG facelift can be expected to launch this mid-June.

The Tata Tiago facelift’s design, as seen in the spy shots, will be more in-line with the production-spec Tata Altroz which is expected to launch later this year. The face of the Tiago and the Tiago NRG are expected to get new daytime running lamps and also a more aggressive grille than before. The higher variants of both the cars are likely to get 15-inch alloy wheels which are currently only offered in the top-spec Tiago ZX+.

Tata had updated the Taigo and the Taigo NRG with 7-inch touchscreen infotainment systems some time ago. With the facelift, Tata will make the infotainment systems in both the cars compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well. Other updates to the interiors are expected to be in the form of new trim and upholstery colors for the seats and the some panels on the dashboard and the doors.

As to confirm to the new safety regulation that come into effect from July 2019, the Tata Taigo and the Taigo NRG facelift will come with rear parking sensors, a driverโ€™s side airbag, ABS and a speed warning system as standard, across all variants. Both cars will also be complying to the latest crash test norms.

As for the powertrains, the Tiago and the Tiago NRG will continue with the 1.2L, three-cylinder engine which produces 85 horsepower. The current 1.05 diesel motor which is BS-IV compliant will also continue for the time being. However, with the BS-VI emission norms kicking in by April 2020, Tata will most likely discontinue this engine closer to the time when the norms are effective.

These updates will gradually make its way to the Tata Tigor and then to the performance focused versions of both the cars – the Tiago JTP and the Tigor JTP. They can be expected some time around the festive season this year.

With this new facelift, the prices of the Tiago and the Tiago NRG will go up by some margin but Tata is still expected to price them quite competitively to undercut its rivals. The Tata Tiago goes against the likes of the Hyundai Santro and the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R. The Tiago NRG goes against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and the Mahindra KUV100 NXT.
