Tata Trucks Get ADAS

With the advancement in technology, the benefit is being reaped by the commercial vehicles as well, as Tata Motors updates its entire fleet of trucks in India.

Trucks from the fleet of Tata Motors will now come equipped with ADAS features. ADAS, for the uninitiated, refers to the Advance Driver Assistance System which makes use of sensors, cameras, radars, etc. to act as auxiliary eyes of the driver to scan the surroundings of the vehicle relentlessly and intervene in the case of emergencies. The aim of this system is to enhance the active safety prowess of automobiles. Tata announced this via its new television commercial. Here are the details.

Tata Trucks Get ADAS

The video has been shared by Tata Motors on YouTube. The advert captures a regular scenario for truck drivers where they are on a highway. The driver is accompanied by his companion who helps in directing the truck when needed. At times, he can also double up as a driver for those time-bound long hauls. As is the case normally, the duo is engaged in a deep conversation where the driver is trying to show the co-driver his home situated on a mountain.

While doing so, both of them take their eyes off the road. There is another truck moving in front of them. Now, since they are not paying attention to the road, their truck would’ve ended up colliding with the truck ahead of them. But the electronics of the ADAS came into use and the truck was brought to a stop automatically. This is called the Collision Mitigation System. There is also the Lane Departure Warning where the system beeps if the truck slides away from its lane.

All these functions are designed to enhance the safety of the passengers and the truck. Most road accidents happen due to driver fatigue or the lack of attention on the road. This system will fill in those gaps but it must be understood that these are not to be taken as substitutes for the driver. There are enough cases of ADAS being misused in cars which had fatal consequences too. Therefore, drivers must still be very careful and the ADAS will only provide an additional safety net.
