The micro-SUV segment is undoubtedly among the more competitive segments of the market. Leading the pack so far has been the Tata Punch. Meanwhile, the new entrants in the form of Maruti Fronx and the Hyundai Exter show tremendous promise. Not the one to be left behind, Toyota Kirloskar Motor plans to make foray into this segment in the coming weeks. Pretty unsurprisingly, its contender will be merely a new version of the Maruti Fronx, which could launch s the Toyota Taisor.

Toyota Taisor Merely a Rebadged Maruti Fronx?

Maruti Fronx made its global debut at the 2023 Auto Expo in January 2023. The Fronx is based on the Baleno but looks a lot bolder. This is largely due to the bolder stance and the Grand Vitara-inpsired front-end. It’s definitely in a stark contrast to the more conservative design of the Baleno. Toyota Taisor, however, could be set to follow a unique design direction. It won’t be a mere rebadging exercise, as we have seen in the past with models like Baleno / Glanza and Vitara Brezza/Urban Cruiser. Instead, Toyota will be seen using its modern styling language to create a distinct identity for the Taisor.

Toyota Taisor’s design is expected to incorporate elements from the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The front fascia will feature angular and aggressive lines, with a prominent airdam giving the vehicle an imposing stance. The headlight assembly is likely to be much like that on the Hyryder. The setup includes hood-level DRLs and main beams at a lower level. This should further enhance the Taisor’s visual appeal. If nothing else, it will make the Taisor look unlike the Grand Vitara-inspired Maruti Fronx.

Premium Features

Inside, the Toyota Taisor will have a host of premium features. The centerpiece will be a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen, accompanied by an Arkamys sound system and connected car technology, offering over 40 connectivity features. The Taisor will also support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, providing seamless smartphone integration. Additionally, convenience features like wireless phone charging, a head-up display unit, push-button start, cruise control, rear AC vents, and keyless entry will add to the luxurious experience.

Toyota prioritizes safety, and the Taisor will be no exception. The SUV will come equipped with a 6 airbags, 360-degree view camera, reverse parking sensors, turn indicators on wing mirrors, and electrically adjustable mirrors to enhance safety and convenience during driving and parking.

Toyota Taisor Specs, Launch Date and Pricing

Under the hood, the Toyota Taisor will share engine options with its Maruti counterpart. This will include a 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine, delivering 99 horsepower and 147 Nm of torque. Additionally, there will be a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, producing 89 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque. With these powerful and efficient engines, the Taisor will be ready to take on any adventure. The launch of the Toyota Taisor is expected to take place in the coming months. As for the pricing, considering the premium branding, the Taisor’s price is likely to be slightly higher than the Maruti Fronx.

What We Think

Toyota’s decision to introduce the Toyota Taisor based on the Maruti Fronx is a strategic move to fill the void left by the discontinuation of the Urban Cruiser. The Taisor promises to bring a fresh and distinctive design, premium features, and powerful performance to the micro-SUV segment. Of course, its legacy as maker of world-class SUVs should work in the Taisor’s favour. With its imminent launch, prospective buyersbuyers can look forward to the new entry-level addition to Toyota’s lineup for India.
