Fresh reports say that Maruti S-Presso will co-exist with the Alto K10 and will be positioned above it. The micro-SUV will be priced similarly to the WagonR.

Maruti is going to launch a new model this October and it will be a micro-SUV, going against the Mahindra KUV100. Its name is not fixed yet, but Maruti has patented the name. S-Presso, for its upcoming car.

Earlier reports suggested that Maruti might discontinue the Alto K10, once S-Presso is launched. The latter was reported to be a replacement for the K10, and further, only Alto 800 will exist.

The 1.0 Litre three-cylinder engine of the Alto K10 will be updated to the BS-6 norms, because the same engine comes on WagonR as well. Maruti has already updated the model with safety norms just around the deadline.

Further, the S-Presso will use the 1.2 Litre four-cylinder engine, that powers all the Maruti small cars. The engine is already BS-6 compliant and produces 67 BHP and 91 Nm of torque. Transmission options will be a 5-speed MT and a 4-speed AT.

The S-Presso will only come with a petrol engine since the smaller 1.3 Litre diesel engine is already being discontinued. The bigger 1.5 Litre diesel engine will only power the bigger cars like Brezza, Ciaz, S-Cross and Ertiga.

The features list on board the S-Presso will be the same as of WagonR, so you can expect the SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Steering mounted audio controls and much more. The safety features list will include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors.

The expected pricing for the S-Presso is starting off at Rs 4.5 Lakhs going up to Rs 7 Lakhs (ex-showroom). As said earlier, it will go against KUV100. Mahindra is going to discontinue the diesel engine of KUV100 as well, making it a petrol-only car. The upcoming micro-SUV will also lock horns with Tata’s upcoming H2X, another micro-SUV.
