Volkswagen had a really strong presence at the 2020 Auto Expo with their slew of SUVs. They showcased the Taigun, the T-Roc and the Tiguan AllSpace and all of these are going to make it to Indian roads pretty soon. We have already reported to you with the details of the Taigun and Tiguan AllSpace and now we have some on the T-Roc as well. The Volkswagen T-Roc is a mid-size SUV and it will be one of the first ones to reach dealerships with its launch slated to take place in the coming months in India.
The Volkswagen T-Roc will be brought to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), under the 2,500 cars import rule. On account of being a CBU, it will be somewhat expensive but Volkswagen intends to position the T-Roc in India as a premium offering. In fact, Volkswagen dealers have already started taking bookings for the T-Roc SUV for a token amount of Rs 25,000.
The T-Roc in India will be available in a single, full-loaded variant. It will thus come pretty well loaded in its single trim with full-LED headlamps and tail-lamps, dual-tone alloy wheels, and front and rear parking sensors. On the interiors, the SUV will have features such as a digital instrument cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof and ‘Vienna’ leather seats. Standard safety kit includes six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, a tyre pressure monitoring system and a parking camera.
The Volkswagen T-Roc is underpinned by the brand’s hugely flexible MQB platform. It measures 4.2 meters in length and it will sit below the Tigaun in Volkswagen’s India lineup. That said, it will be positioned higher than the Taigun that is also slated for its launch in the market very soon. The Volkswagen T-Roc will be powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine that produces 150hp and 340Nm of torque. The engine will come mated to 7-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission as standard.
Volkswagen has also opened bookings for the Tiguan AllSpace in India for a token amount of Rs. 50,000. The 7-seat model will replace the current 5-seater and will be launched sometime next month. Volkswagen has kick started their India 2.0 project with with an SUV offensive strategy and after the Tiguan AllSpace, the T-Roc will is slated for its launch around mid-April 2020. It is expected to be priced around Rs. 23 lakhs (ex-showroom) and will compete with the Jeep Compass and the upcoming Hyundai Tucson facelift in our market.
