Yamaha first unveiled the Cygnus Alpha scooter at the 2014 Auto Expo as a unisex model based on the same platform as the Ray. A little over two years down the line they have unveiled a new variant of the scooter equipped with a disc brake. Other additions to the Yamaha Cygnus Alpha lineup include two new colour schemes. The introduction of the Yamaha Cygnus Alpha disc brake variant has helped Yamaha expand its scooter range that now includes the Ray Z, Ray ZR, Fascino and, of course, the Cygnus Alpha. The disc brake equipped Alpha becomes the third launch by Yamaha this year after the Saluto RX and Ray ZR, which took place in April. The Cygnus Alpha is now available in two variants – Standard and Disc Brake. There is a price difference of about 3,220 rupees between the two.

Commenting on the introduction of the new variant and Yamaha Cygnus Alpha price announcement, Mr. Roy Kurian, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. said, โ€œThe scooter market has witnessed rapid growth in the last few years and Yamaha has been able to make steady inroad in this segment. Yamaha is looking at reaching a 10% market share by the end of this year and the introduction of this latest variant of the Cygnus Alpha scooter is expected to further propel its growth in the segment. This latest offering with disc brake is aimed at families who want that additional safety feature.โ€

Yamaha Cygnus Alpha Specifications

It is powered by the same engine that powers the Yamaha Ray and Ray Z scooters, which means you get a single cylinder, 4-stroke 113cc petrol engine which will be mated to a CVT transmission. Performance figures remain unchanged, which means you get a peak power on 7 BHP @ 7500 rpm and 8.1 Nm @ 5000 rpm.
