A spy pic from Motoroids.com has surfaced of what looks like a camouflaged base variant of Fiat Linea. The test mule was caught testing on the old Mumbai-Pune highway. Now the question in everybody’s mind is why Fiat testing the car with camouflage when it has been already launched in the Indian market back in March. The test mule sports black bumpers which gives us a hint of it being a base variant. On the outside, the car retains the fog lamps and body coloured outer rear view mirrors. As can be seen in the image above, the interiors of the car seem to be of a base variant.ย With the current prices starting at Rs. 6.99 Lakh, the base variant could be priced below Rs. 6.50 Lakh.
Akin to a typical base variant, the car offers just the basic features which will enable you to commute without any luxury. The steering wheel has been stripped down of the audio controls and the even the CD/MP3 which is a standard offering from the Fiat, hasn’t been provided to this base variant. Fiat Linea is priced from Rs. 6.99 Lakh for the base petrol variant-Active. This Active variant is available with the 1.4 liter petrol engine. But the spied base variant seen here will be slotted below this Active variant and is likely to come with a factory fitted CNG kit. Fiat could also sell this variant with the 1.3 liter MJD for the taxi fleet operators. Judging by the low frills treatment, fiat is offering with this variant, the car looks all set to become the numero uno choice amongst taxi drivers.
If launched, this variant of the Linea could be priced well below Rs. 6.99 Lakh which is the current ex-Showroom price of the base Linea Active. The model could be positioned between the 2014 Linea Active (Rs. 6.99 Lakh) and the Linea Classic (Rs. 5.99 Lakh). The base variant Fiat Linea will be pitted against the Maruti Suzuki Dezire, Mahindra Verito, Nissan Sunny, Toyota Etios and Tata Indigo CS.
We will keep you posted with further developments on this until then do let us know what you think of the new 2014 Fiat Linea base variant.
