The 2018 Santro is turning out to be a blockbuster for Hyundai Motors India! Within a month of its launch, the new Santro has managed to garner over 30,000 bookings.
The massive demand has led to a considerable waiting period of more than 4 months for this compact hatchback.
This has led Hyundai to increase its monthly production target for the new Santro from 8,500 units to 10,000. The South Korean automaker will try to meet this target starting the month of November this year.
Hyundai had launched the 2018 iteration of the Santro in India with both a manual as well as an automatic gearbox options. The interesting thing to note here is that 37 per cent of the total demand is for the automatic (AMT) variants.
The 2018 Hyundai Santro made its debut in India during the month of October this year.
Based on an all-new K1 platform which it shares with the Grand i10, the new iteration of this hatchback currently costs INR 3.89 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant.
The top-spec manual trim retails at a price of INR 5.46 lakh.
Hyundai has given the new Santro the older Santro’s 1.1-litre, 4-cylinder Epsilon petrol engine. This gasoline motor is capable of churning out 68 BHP along with 99 Nm of peak torque.
As standard, this hatchback gets a 5-speed manual gearbox. In addition to this, Hyundai has provided this car with an option of a 5-speed AMT unit.
The interesting thing to note here is that this AMT gearbox is first of its kind from the South Korean automaker. And that it has been developed completely in-house.
In the compact hatchback segment, the 2018 Hyundai Santro comes with a whole array of segment-first features.
For instance, it offers a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes with Android Auto and Apple Car Play. In addition to this, it comes with rear air-con vents.
