This shows that the new Thar has impressed buyers by huge numbers. Among all bookings done, nearly 44% of them, account to automatic variants, which is a first time for the Thar. Seeing the huge response and increasing waiting period, Mahindra has decided to ramp up the production capacity quickly.
By January 2021, the monthly production is expected to cross 3,000 units, which will bring down the waiting by a considerable difference. The best selling combination as per dealerships is the diesel-manual option, which comes on the AX, AX(O) and LX variants. Automatic gearbox option comes only with the LX variants and not on the other two variants.
In recent development, Mahindra has paused the bookings for the base-spec AX variant. Reportedly, the base variants are not in great demand and more buyers are going for the other two variants. Prices of Thar, currently, commence at Rs 11.90 Lakhs going up to Rs 13.75 Lakhs (ex-showroom). The AX(O) petrol-manual and diesel-manual are currently the base variants offered.
