honda city hybrid 0-100 test

The Honda City Hybrid has created a lot of interest around its powertrain and mileage. This 0-100 km/h acceleration test will prove if it is quicker than the Skoda Slavia or not.

We have brought an acceleration test of the recently unveiled Honda City Hybrid to compare it with the Skoda Slavia. Slavia is the direct competitor of the City hybrid even though the prices of the latter have not been revealed. The City is in the news for sporting a unique hybrid powertrain that is capable of being driven in three modes; Electric, ICE Engine and Hybrid. It boasts of a class-leading fuel economy of over 26 km/l. But what about the performance? Well, let us check that out in this acceleration test.

City Hybrid Acceleration – Better Than Slavia?

The video incorporates three acceleration tests for consistency. In the first attempt, the City hybrid accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 10.59 secs. The attempt is then repeated the second time. This time, the 0-100 gets completed in 10.14 secs. In the final attempt, the race gets completed in 10.52 secs. Averaging out these three results gives a final 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 10.42 secs. In comparison, the 0-100 km/h comes up in under 10 secs for the Skoda Slavia. The difference of around 1 sec is enough to declare the Slavia much superior to the City hybrid, at least in terms of outright acceleration.

Specs

The Honda City Hybrid comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine coupled with two electric motors, one of which powers the wheels, while the other acts as an integrated starter-generator. The combined output of this unique powertrain stands at a decent 126 hp and 253 Nm of peak power and torque. The transmission duties will be carried by an e-CVT automatic gearbox. The City hybrid boasts of an impressive best-in-class mileage of 26.5 km/l.

On the other hand, the Skoda Slavia is available in two variants โ€“ 1.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol and 1.5-litre TSI EVO turbo-petrol. The former outputs 115 PS-178 Nm, while the latter offers 150 PS-250 Nm. While both the engines come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, thereโ€™s a 6-speed torque-converter automatic and a 7-speed DSG option for 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre engine variants, respectively. The prices of the Slavia range from Rs 10.69 lakh and Rs 17.79 lakh, ex-showroom. It can be safely inferred that the Honda City Hybrid is marginally slower than the Skoda Slavia in the acceleration test.
