Bookings for the Hyundai Creta-rivalling Honda Elevate will commence next month, while the launch will take place during this year’s festive season

The world debut of the highly-awaited Honda Elevate has just occurred at a high-profile event in New Delhi. The order books for the Elevate will open next month while the launch is scheduled for this year’s festive season. While the new SUV is a spiritual successor to the BR-V, it’s rather closely related to the latest-gen City sedan. The new model is expected to play a vital role in helping the carmaker revive its sales fortune in a market with a high affinity for SUVs. Hence, the latest offering will be seen locking horns with a slew of rivals ranging from the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos to the Skoda Kushaq and MG Astor.

Honda Elevate Price

While the official price list is yet to be out, it’s almost certain that the new model would cost around the same as the immediate rivals. So, a price range of, say, Rs 11-20 lakh (ex-showroom) would be a pretty safe guess. This would even mean that the new SUV will be positioned close to the City, thereby giving Honda a strong foothold in the C-segment of the market. An electric version of the new model should debut in the coming years and is one of the 5 new SUVs Honda Cars India intends to introduce by the end of the ongoing decade. What this clearly means is that the EV version, once introduced, is slated to take on the likes of Tata Nexon EV Max as well as the lower variants of the MG ZS EV.

Interior and Features

As expected, the Honda Elevate’s equipment list is similar to that for the City. It gets a 7-inch digital instrument cluster along with a 10.25-inch infotainment unit. Other highlights include an electric sunroof, 6 airbags on the top model, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Alexa, WatchOS and Google support, 360-degree camera-voice commands, electrically adjustable ORVMs, Day/Night Inside Rear View Mirror, and more. Visually, the cabin follows a City-like dual-tone black-beige colour theme with faux wood trim. The steering wheel, like several controls come from the City, come from the City parts bin.

ADAS and Other Safety Features

Akin to the comfort- and convenience-enhancing equipment, even the safety features are pretty much the same as those available in the City. These include a quote of 6 airbags for the top-spec model, ABS with EBD, Traction Control, Electronic Stability Control and ADAS (Honda Sensing tech). The Global NCAP rating for the Elevate is yet to be released but it would be quite safe to assume a City-like score, which bagged a full 5-star rating as per the old testing regime.

Honda Elevate Specs

While the latest-gen Honda City is available in ICE and strong Hybrid variants, the Elevate has been introduced in a petrol-only avatar. Expectedly, the Hyundai Creta-rival shares its engine with the City. It features the same 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, DOHC iVTEC mill outputting a maximum power of 121 hp and a peak torque of 145 Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 7-step CVT. A Hybrid version could be in the offing, and so is a full-electric version. Speaking of the dimensions, the Elevate measures 4,312 mm in length, 1,790 mm in width, 1,650 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,650 mm. The new compact SUV offers a decent boot space of 458-litre. The new model has a ground clearance of 190 mm.

Launch Date, Bookings and Rivals

The Honda Elevate makes its world premiere in India. In line with this, Hondaโ€™s local production facility will serve as the manufacturing hub for the export-spec model. While the carmaker is tight-lipped about the pricing, it has confirmed that the market launch is scheduled for this yearโ€™s festive season. The bookings, though, will commence next month. Once launched, the new model will take over a range of SUVs, including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun. In fact, it could even rival the recently unveiled Citroen C3 Aircross.ย
