The third generation KTM Duke 390 is an incredibly capable motorcycle as we discuss its most crucial aspects.

We recently reviewed the third-gen KTM Duke 390 motorcycle. The latest version of this motorcycle brings a host of improvements over its previous iteration. These enhancements include a larger engine, extra features, and various mechanical upgrades. KTM’s aim with this model is to strengthen its position in the 400-cc segment for performance enthusiasts. In line with this objective, the changes made by the Austrian manufacturer for the 2024 model year are geared towards delivering a sportier riding experience. In this blog post, we shall take a look at the 10 most important things you need to know about the bike.

2024 KTM Duke 390 – Key Aspects

  1. The design of the bike is a lot more modern which enhances the overall appeal. This includes a new LED headlamp cluster with LED DRLs.
  2. The design of the alloy wheels is new. Moreover, they are even 1.5 kg lighter than the previous-gen model, thereby reducing its unsprung mass.
  3. Massive tank shrouds with lacquer coat applied over the Duke 390 body graphics.
  4. There are only two colours on offer – Orange and Metallic Blue. White paint shade unavailable for now.
  5. TFT Instrument Cluster with crisp graphics even under direct sunlight. It shows all sorts of information for riders including smartphone connectivity. It even offers turn-by-turn navigation.
  6. Side exhaust replaced by an underbelly exhaust for lower centre of gravity and a neater look.
  7. Lower seat height (800 mm) compared to the previous-gen model (823 mm) keeping in mind the average height of an Indian male. You could still get a higher seat as an accessory.
  8. It is underpinned by a brand new Trellis frame with an aluminium subframe and off-set monoshock.
  9. The new frame has been designed keeping in mind the ADV derivative it will spawn in near future.
  10. New Duke 390 has a 399-cc engine instead of 373-cc motor in the outgoing model. The performance is enhanced because this engine produces higher power and torque while the weight has slightly been reduced.
  11. For the first time ever, the D390 offers multiple riding modes – Street, Rain and Track.

Specs

The 2024 390 Duke introduces a brand-new 398.7-cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, which now cranks out 44.8 hp and 39 Nm of peak power and torque. It is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, representing a slight improvement over the outgoing 373-cc single-cylinder engine, which produced 43.5 hp and 37 Nm of power and torque. The engine features an 89 mm bore and a 64 mm stroke.

In terms of its mechanical components, noteworthy elements include a 43 mm WP Apex front fork suspension with adjustable compression and rebound, delivering 150 mm of travel. At the rear, there’s a monoshock suspension with 5-step rebound and preload adjustability, also providing 150 mm of travel. Moreover, the front tire now incorporates a 320 mm disc, while the rear tire is equipped with a 240 mm disc. Dual-channel ABS comes standard across the entire lineup. These modifications collectively enhance the bike’s versatility for various riding conditions. The motorcycle has a weight of 165 kg. The price is an attractive Rs 3.11 lakh, ex-showroom.
