Leading this segment with over 15,000 sales is the 5-star safety-rated micro SUV from Tata Motors, the Punch. It has been a blockbuster in our market since its launch. Then comes Maruti Fronx with over 11,000 sales. Fronx sits in an interesting place in Maruti’s portfolio as a crossover hatchback. Thereafter, we have the Hyundai Exter. It is the newest product from the Korean auto giant. It recorded an impressive sales figure of over 8,000 units. The other Maruti Suzuki vehicle on this list is the Ignis with over 2,300 sales. Finally, the Citroen C3 failed to attract many Indian buyers with just 222 units sold in October 2023.

What We Think

It is evident that the future of the automobile industry belongs to SUVs. In recent years, particularly in India, people are loving the practicality and road presence of SUVs. Hence, more and more people are ditching the hatchbacks and sedans. As a result, today we have SUVs starting at the price of a hatchback. This is a global trend which will continue in times to come. Who knows we might even see the creation of even more segments of the SUVs in the near future.
