Tata Nexon CNG Automatic

The upcoming Tata Nexon CNG will further expand the variant options for the compact SUV.

The Tata Nexon CNG will be the first car in the country to have a turbo-automatic combination with the CNG mill. Nexon is one of the most popular compact SUVs in the country. It has been doing amazingly well on the sales charts for a long time now. It also holds the distinction of being the only car to be available with petrol, diesel, electric and CNG powertrains. Hence, the Indian auto giant aims to cater to the widest possible range of potential customers. Going even deeper, now Tata Motors will offer a turbo petrol engine and automatic transmission with the CNG version. That will be a first in the country.

Tata Nexon CNG Will Get Turbo-Automatic Configuration

Tata Motors recently became the first carmaker in the country to offer AMT gearbox with its CNG powertrains. In addition to that, it also introduced dual-cylinder technology for its CNG models. It ensures that the CNG fuel tank is divided into two smaller cylinders to free up usable space in the boot compartment. Now, it will become the first car marque to offer the turbo petrol option and automatic transmission with the CNG variants. This, in essence, will boost the appeal of the Nexon CNG multifold. With this, it will be able to cater to the needs of even more potential car buyers.

Note that the existing Tata Nexon already gets the 1.2-litre turbo petrol mill in the regular guise. Tata Motors will use the same engine with CNG fuel to offer an SUV for all those who want low running costs from the cars. It is expected to have two tanks with a total of 60 litre capacity. Despite the two CNG cylinders, the boot space will be a decent 230 litres. The ECU switches between CNG and petrol without any fuss and the SUV can even be started on CNG directly. To make the refuelling process faster, the Nexon CNG will use the NGV1 nozzle. Specific details will emerge at the launch.

Our View

Tata Motors is always on the heels of Hyundai for that second spot on the monthly sales charts. It has achieved immense success in the last few years. Part of the reason why it is so is because of its impressive production lineup. It focuses on safety and features along with alternate powertrain models to capture a large segment of potential car buyers. The Nexon is a perfect example of that approach. It is available with all sorts of fuel types, transmissions, engines, etc. Going forward, we expect Tata Motors to continue this approach. We shall keep witnessing how things shape up in times to come.
