Ola Electric Scooter Owner Sets Showroom on Fire

The problems of Ola Electric just don’t seem to end as another shocking incident comes to light from Karnataka

A latest case has emerged where an Ola electric scooter owner allegedly set an Ola showroom in Karnataka on fire. Ola is among the biggest two-wheeler EV players in the country. In fact, it can be credited with being the pioneer when it comes to Indian EV startups. Of course, the other major EV startup is Ather, Ola’s prime competitor. Even though Ola has achieved great heights in terms of sales and EV penetration in India, things have been far from smooth. This is the most recent case in point.

Ola Electric Scooter Owner Allegedly Set Showroom on Fire

The entire social media is flooded with the visuals of the Ola Electric showroom engulfed in fire in Kalaburagi, Karnataka. Many news houses have covered this story. These reports mention that the 26-year-old Mohammad Nadeem bought the electric scooter on August 28. He is a mechanic by profession. However, he was facing issues with it from early on. In fact, he went to the service centre to get these problems fixed. There were issues pertaining to the battery and sound system. Unfortunately, the service staff was unable to remedy these occurrences despite multiple visits from Nadeem.

That is what frustrated him so much. Reportedly, he arrived at this Ola showroom after it was closed and set it ablaze. In fact, it was initially thought that the fire occurred due to a short circuit. However, Nadeem’s involvement led to his arrest. The visuals are quite terrifying and losses worth Rs 8.5 lakh have been reported so far. Thankfully, since this incident took place after office hours, no casualty was reported. Ola officially released a statement condemning the actions and said that they will take the necessary legal measures to ensure strict actions in this matter and that such incidents are not repeated.

Our View

Now this is one case which has sparked a feeling of shock, both for the Ola electric scooter customers and the company. I would like to refrain from commenting until I know the full picture. However, looking at the initial details of this case, I can understand the frustration of the EV owner. Having said that, taking the law into your own hands is never the right approach. Furthermore, I think we should wait for the official investigation to be over before the entire picture comes to light.
