Maruti e Vitara Testing Rough Proving Ground

Maruti e Vitara is the first EV from the Japanese car marque and will launch in India in the coming weeks

In this post, we witness the Maruti e Vitara performing a rough road test on the proving ground. e Vitara was displayed at the recently concluded Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 in New Delhi. However, it is still eluding the launch in India just yet. Once it is here, it will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra XUV400, etc. That is quite a tough field already and an indication of where the market is headed. For now, let us take a look at the details of this case.

Maruti e Vitara Undergoing Rough Road Test

This video was uploaded by the Suzuki Global channel on YouTube. As per the description of this post, this proving course is located in Shizuoka in Japan. The electric SUV is being tested thoroughly on different surfaces. In the starting phase of the video, it is being driven on a perfectly maintained tarmac road which is where most people will use it. However, it even gets an AWD configuration which warrants a few off-roading excursions as well. Hence, the car is taken onto the brick road to test the stability and NVH levels.

However, things get pretty intense once it gets on to the sandy track which mimics a hardcore off-roading environment. The surface is uneven and the vehicle is still taking everything in its stride quite confidently. Thereafter, it goes on a surface which has potholes but is constructed from tarmac. That is something we see in many cities across the globe. Finally, to test its wheel articulation and in-cabin comfort, they take it to a specially constructed surface with crests and troughs on a mettled surface. The electric SUV remains stable for the most part signifying its impressive engineering. All in all, the Maruti e Vitara definitely looks quite capable regardless of the road surface you take it on.

Specs

Even though the vehicle has not been launched in India, Maruti Suzuki has shared most information about the specifications. It is based on a new HEARTECT-e platform with eAxle (3-in-1 unit including inverter, motor and transmission). Buyers will get the option of choosing between either a 49 kWh or 61 kWh battery pack. Maruti Suzuki claims a range of over 500 km on a single charge. The power and torque figures range from 142 hp / 189 Nm to 172 hp / 189 Nm and 181 hp / 300 Nm (AWD), respectively. Using Suzuki’s trademark ALLGRIP-e technology, the torque is distributed as per the requirement. The SUV weighs between 1,702 kg and 1,899 kg and boasts a ground clearance of a healthy 180 mm. The unofficial bookings are already underway.
