It’s worth noting that this becomes India’s first freight train with SUVs on both the decks

Kia India has introduced the country’s first double-decker freight train to transport SUVs. With this, the carmaker marks a significant milestone in automotive logistics. The train, flagged off from Penukonda railway station, aims to enhance transportation efficiency and increase vehicle load capacity per train.

Increased Capacity and Sustainability

The new double-decker freight train can carry up to 264 SUVs—more than two and a half times the capacity of a standard train, which typically transports around 100 vehicles. Among the vehicles that will be transported by the double-decker will be the recently launched Kia Syros. By leveraging railways for vehicle transportation, Kia has already moved over 60,000 SUVs to northern, eastern, and western regions of India. This expansion will help streamline operations, reduce transit times, and improve supply chain efficiency.

By integrating rail transport with road logistics, Kia’s initiative also contributes to reducing carbon emissions. This is in line with India’s eco-friendly transportation goals. Basically, this move aligns with the government’s vision of making India a global manufacturing and sustainable logistics hub. The launch of this double-decker freight train sets a precedent for future innovations in automotive logistics. Hence, it should very well pave the way for a more efficient and sustainable supply chain.
