The Korean auto giant enters its 30th year of operations in India as it celebrates this monumental milestone
Hyundai accomplished the iconic milestone of 9 million (90 lakh) domestic sales in India since its inception. Averaging out, this comes out to be a whopping 35 cars every hour for 29 years. That is a testament to the popularity of Hyundai, along with the validation from the customers. The Korean car maker has been in the second spot on the sales charts since its commencement of operations in India back in 1996. Let us glance at the specifics of this amazing achievement.
Hyundai Crosses 9 Million Domestic Sales
As per the official press release, for the month of April 2025, Hyundai managed to sell a sizeable 60,774 units. This constitutes 44,374 units for domestic consumption and 16,400 units for exports. As a matter of fact, HMIL remains the largest exporter of passenger vehicles in India with over 21% year-on-year growth in April 2025 under its ‘Make in India, Made for the World’ initiative. This proves that its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility is capable of producing world-class products. Hence, the domestic customers get to experience the best that Hyundai has to offer.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Tarun Garg, Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer, HMIL said, “As we enter the 30th year of our operations in India on 6th May 2025, we are proud of our commitment to our country, that has led us to achieve the milestone of 9-million-unit sales in the Indian market since our inception in 1996. While the domestic market continues to face headwinds on account of various macro-economic factors, we continue to champion ‘Make in India, Made for the World’ emphasizing HMIL’s strong focus on exports. This has resulted in a robust 21.5% YoY growth in export volumes in April 2025 and 16.2% growth during January to April 2025 as compared to same period in the previous year. Overall, we remain dedicated to enhancing value for our customers as we gear up to commence operations at our new plant at Talegaon in Q4 of this calendar year.”

On top of that, it has products in every major segment of the Indian automobile market. This ensures that the needs of all sorts of customers are met and there is a Hyundai car for every buyer. In fact, in recent times, it has also tasted success with its world-class global EV, the Ioniq 5.
