The trend of mini EVs for urban usage has gained traction in many parts of the world in recent years
In this post, we take a look at the specifics of the Citroen Ami micro EV, which, if it makes it to our shores, could directly rival the MG Comet. Note that the Ami Concept was showcased back in 2019, and it is currently on sale in some European markets. The aim is to offer something immensely affordable and compact, so that it could easily blend into the urban environment. Furthermore, for city centres, using a vehicle with zero tailpipe emissions is critical. Let us glance at the specifics of the Citroen Ami.
New Citroen Ami Can Be A Perfect MG Comet Rival
We came across the commercial for the Citroen Ami courtesy of the Citroen channel on YouTube. The visuals capture an exciting way to highlight the practicality of the micro EV within the city confines. Hence, we see the EV with tiny dimensions and how it is easily able to fit into just about any parking space. Moreover, manoeuvring the car around in the city is also a breeze. Having said that, it doesn’t compromise too much on the features and tech on offer. This is certainly at par with the MG Comet, which is a compact EV and has loads of modern amenities.
Going by the international model, the Ami boasts a panoramic glass roof, USB charging port, adjustable seats, heating, ventilation, demisting function, 64-litre passenger footwell storage, smartphone cradle, DAT@AMI smartphone connectivity, and much more. In terms of the exterior styling, the EV bears a funky and boxy silhouette along with a peppy road presence. Clearly, the main focus is on ensuring that the EV is compact and funky. It is 2.5 m long, 1.5 m wide and 1.5 m high. It gets a 6.3 kWh battery pack, which offers a range of around 96 km on a single charge.
My View
Something so compact and niche is definitely a direct rival to an EV like the MG Comet. In India, we are still getting accustomed to micro city cars, particularly with electric hearts. Therefore, I am excited to see if the Indian customers embrace such kind of vehicles going forward. Depending on the demand, we might see new carmakers jump into this category just like MG has done with the Comet. For now, it remains to be seen if the French car marque decides to bring the Ami to our market.
