The electric iteration of the famed off-roading SUV is about to arrive in its production form in the coming days
In this post, we take a look at the details of the Mahindra Thar Electric, which will most likely make its debut at Mahindra’s upcoming Independence Day event in Mumbai. Thar is the most successful and popular off-roading name in India for around 2 decades. In its latest iteration, the Thar boasts new-age amenities, bold looks, powerful engines and a practical 5-door version. Going forward, we will also get it in an electric guise, representing the modern electric mobility. Let us take a look at the details here.
Mahindra Thar Electric To Debut Soon?
The latest visuals showcase the near-production iteration of the Mahindra Thar.e Concept, which we witnessed two years ago. At the upcoming Freedom_NU event in Mumbai, the Indian auto giant will most likely classify the new electric Thar under its Vision.T concept. One intriguing aspect is whether or not the electric Thar will possess a ladder-frame chassis. Chances are that it might finally incorporate a monocoque construction. In terms of appearance, the Thar EV will bear butch and rugged elements to have an imposing road presence.
This includes aspects like square headlamps with LED DRLs, a compact grille section, a sturdy bumper, an upright bonnet and a hardcore off-roading appearance. On the sides, we will witness prominent wheel arches, adventurous body claddings, elegant alloy wheels with off-roading tyres, square windows, etc. Finally, the tail section, according to the concept, will remind the onlookers of the Land Rover Defender with a boxy silhouette and an upright tail gate. It remains to be seen how many of these elements will make it to the real SUV.
My View
I must admit the excitement around the Mahindra Thar Electric is quite buzzing. Mahindra, in general, has been launching impressive EVs, based on its INGLO platform, not just for India, but for global markets. The XEV 9e and BE6 are prime examples of that. I have no doubt that the Thar Electric will be an electric SUV to watch out for. More details will emerge on the Independence Day event in Mumbai on August 15.
