Honda 0 Alpha Concept Electric SUV Revealed

Honda 0 Alpha Concept Electric SUV Revealed

The electric SUV concept was revealed at the ongoing Japan Mobility Show 2025

Honda 0 α will be the first-ever electric SUV from the Japanese car marque for the Indian market. Note that this marks the introduction of Honda’s 0 Series of EVs. I must mention here that this is the concept iteration. Hence, the final production model will bear a few changes. Nevertheless, we get to experience a detailed view of what the future design philosophy of the brand looks like. Interestingly, the production will take place in India and the EV will be exported to other markets. The India launch is slated for 2027.

Honda’s First-ever Electric SUV for India

The visuals surfaced online yesterday, and the video comes to us courtesy of rushlane on Instagram. We witness the elegant, yet understated front fascia of the concept EV with a connected LED strip which runs the width of the face and culminates in LED DLRs flanking the gloss black panel in place of the grille. The lower section also contains striking elements and a sporty bumper to complete the front profile. Moving down the sides reveals that Honda has made efforts to make the electric SUV aerodynamically efficient with creaseless body panels, flush-fitting door handles, 19-inch aero alloy wheels, etc. At the rear, we see a massive LED light bar which runs in a U-shape around the windshield.

The details regarding the interior cabin are still limited. Having said that, we can expect it to carry all the latest tech and convenience amenities to pamper the occupants. Talking about the powertrain, the EV could boast a battery with a capacity of around 65 kWh – 75 kWh. To keep the prices competitive, there could be two battery pack options. It is also likely that the electric SUV will have a single-motor front-wheel-drive configuration. In our market, it could go up against the likes of the Mahindra BE6, Hyundai Creta EV, upcoming Maruti e-Vitara, Tata Curvv EV, etc.

My View

Honda might be late to the EV party, but it is certainly planning a large portfolio not just for India, but for the global markets. That is in line with the kind of plans most carmakers have for the coming decade. India might still be a nascent market for EVs, but it is growing rapidly. The nation is working on improving the charging infrastructure, as buyers get more interested in EVs. Going forward, the market share of EVs is bound to increase. It looks like Honda will be at the right place at the right time to benefit from that surge. We will get to know more details in the coming months.

Honda’s entry into the Indian EV space has been long overdue, and the 0 α concept finally signals a serious intent from the Japanese automaker. What’s particularly encouraging is Honda’s plan to localize production in India, a move that could make this EV price-competitive against established domestic players. However, with rivals like Tata, Mahindra, and Hyundai already gaining traction in the electric SUV race, Honda will need to back its sleek design with strong range, charging capability, and after-sales confidence to truly make an impact.
