MoRTH Minister Nitin Gadkari Seen Without Seatbelt in His Car at 130 km/h

It is quite hilarious and ironic to see the transport minister of our country forget a basic safety practice

The Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has been going viral for a slightly controversial reason. In a recent video, he was spotted sitting on the front passenger seat of his official car without wearing a seatbelt. Nitin Gadkari is a prominent public figure. He is famous for being outspoken about how he aims to transform the Indian highways, road infrastructure and automobile industry. To be fair, he has achieved some remarkable feats during his tenure. Presently, he continues to work ambitiously to create an even deeper development in this regard.

This video by khabar.ig contains the entire episode. As per the information in this post, he visited packages 6 and 7 of the Greenfield Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway in Gujarat to review the progress and workmanship. That is something he does regularly, which explains why his projects finish on time. On this occasion, he moved around the area on foot, as well as in his vehicle. The camera caught the car reaching a speed of around 140 km/h. However, the seatbelt symbol kept blinking.

Now, to be honest, the camera angles don’t give a clear picture of whether he is wearing the seatbelt or not. Additionally, the seatbelt reminder can go off not just for the front passenger, but for any occupant. Therefore, it is difficult to ascertain the exact cause of this symbol. In any case, the netizens were quick to point out that the Minister is not following traffic regulations.

My View

Now, I must admit that we should consider such cases online with a pinch of salt. No one really knows the exact picture and behind-the-scenes of such short video clips. Hence, we must not jump to conclusions and try to research more independently. In any case, make sure to encourage everyone around you to follow traffic rules strictly so that our roads become safer than they currently are. I shall keep an eye out for more such cases in the times to come.

As someone who has covered road safety and automotive policy for well over a decade, I find it especially concerning when public figures appear to overlook basic safety norms. Whether or not the seatbelt was actually unfastened, the optics alone are enough to send the wrong message in a country already battling low seatbelt compliance. Incidents like these simply reinforce how urgently India needs stronger awareness, and accountability, around in-car safety.
