Upcoming Hyundai Micro SUV Caught Testing Yet Again

The Korean auto giant is slowly expanding its footprint in India as it plans to enter the entry-level EV space

Updated on 09.02.2026 – The latest post from motorbeam on Instagram captures the new Hyundai micro SUV performing road tests. In fact, the visuals capture the boxy SUV with thick camouflage being driven in busy traffic conditions. The tail section of the car is visible. We witness the sleek LED taillamps with a slim glass panel connecting them at the rear, a prominent roof-mounted spoiler, sturdy roof rails, upright stance, flush-fitting door handles and pronounced wheel arches. New Hyundai Micro SUV Spied Testing, What Could It Be?

Originally published on 28.01.2026 – The upcoming Hyundai electric micro SUV has started testing in India. The micro electric SUV space in India is gaining popularity among the masses. In recent times, cars like the Tata Tiago EV, Punch EV and MG Comet have been posting decent sales figures. People understand the practicality and everyday usability, along with low running costs. Also, as the charging infrastructure is being developed rapidly, customers are willing to take the plunge to purchase an electric car. For now, let us take a look at the details of the latest test mule.

New Hyundai Compact SUV Spied in India

The latest images from yara_motors display the heavily camouflaged electric SUV plying on a busy road. Digging a bit deeper, these images stem from somewhere close to Hyundai’s Talegaon facility. The upright stance, SUV-ish silhouette, and rugged elements are evident. At the front, we see the sleek LED DRLs connected via what looks like a glass panel. The main headlamp cluster is located on the extreme edges of the bumper. Moving down the sides reveals the tallboy appearance with black side pillars, functional roof rails and steel wheels. Finally, at the rear, one witnesses the roof-mounted unique spoiler, slim LED taillamps and a boxy appearance.

Now, even though the details pertaining to the interior cabin and tech amenities are limited, we know that Hyundai always equips its products with all the bells and whistles. There is no reason to believe that things will be any different this time around. Regardless of which segment it competes in, the vehicle will feature new-age tech and safety amenities. In any case, it remains to be seen which mystery vehicle this is. If we were to take a calculated guess, this might be the Inster EV, or a new Syros-type electric micro SUV to cater to the entry-level EV segment in India. More details will emerge in the coming weeks.

From my perspective, Hyundai’s move to test the electric micro EV in India signals a clear intent to challenge Tata’s growing dominance in the entry-level EV space. The micro-SUV EV segment is shaping up to be the real volume driver for electrification in our market, where affordability and usability matter more than outright range. If Hyundai localises aggressively and prices it right, the micro EV could significantly disrupt players like the Punch EV. This is yet another indication that mainstream EV adoption in India is moving beyond experimentation into serious product planning.
