The largest carmaker in the country is planning a slew of new launches in the coming weeks
In this post, let us take a look at the details of the new Maruti Baleno facelift, which was seen testing near Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Baleno represents the premium hatchback segment in India. This is a space with huge volumes despite the tough competition from the new-age compact and micro SUVs. In recent years, the Baleno has emerged as the undisputed leader of this segment. The other worthy rivals include the Hyundai i20 and Tata Altroz. For now, let us take a look at what the updated Baleno would offer.
New Maruti Baleno Facelift Spotted Testing
The specifics of this case stem from mastana.amit on Instagram. The visuals capture the entire convoy of Maruti Suzuki test mules, which represent the upcoming models in the market. These include the Brezza facelift, Baleno facelift and the 3-row electric YMC MPV. Clearly, the Indo-Japanese carmaker has some huge plans for the immediate future. In any case, we are interested in what the premium hatchback offers. Despite the heavy covering, we can safely assume that it will get redesigned front and rear ends, new headlamps and a new set of alloy wheels. That is generally how facelifts are designed to set them apart from the outgoing model.
On the inside, we know that tech, convenience and connectivity features are something that the car buyers have become particular about in the last few years. As a result, car companies ensure that they equip their models with all the latest bells and whistles. That will continue to be the case with the new Baleno as well. We can expect some additional in-cabin functionalities in comparison to the current model to ensure that new customers get drawn to it. Exact details will surface in the coming weeks.
Expected Specs and Price
Now, since it is a regular facelift, I don’t expect too many mechanical changes to the new Baleno. Therefore, it will most likely continue to draw power from the tried and tested 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol mill, which is good for 88 hp and 113 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. The transmission duties will be carried out by a manual and an automatic gearbox. I am intrigued to see if it gets the new 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engine from the Swift. Apart from that, the current model retails between Rs 5.99 lakh and Rs 9.10 lakh, ex-showroom. The facelift avatar could bear a slight premium over these numbers.

Having tracked the premium hatchback segment closely over the years, I believe the Balenoโs success comes from its ability to balance practicality, efficiency and affordability better than most rivals. Even in an SUV-dominated market, there remains a strong set of buyers who still prefer hatchbacks for their ease of use and lower ownership costs. What stands out to me is how aggressively Maruti Suzuki is refreshing its portfolio to stay ahead of evolving customer expectations. In my view, this facelift will focus less on radical changes and more on strengthening the Balenoโs appeal through updated styling and added technology, which is exactly what this segment demands today.
