The EV space in India has been growing rapidly in the past few years and new launches are also planned for the near and long-term future
In this post, we compare the upcoming Kia Syros EV and the Tata Punch EV in terms of specs, features, prices, etc. Note that the details pertaining to the Syros EV have not been announced just yet. Still, we can make some logical guesses based on the Syros ICE version and the kind of battery options available on other Kia cars in India like the Carens Clavis EV. On the other hand, the Punch EV continues to be a key product for the Indian automobile giant. Its ICE iteration has been received extremely well by Indian consumers. Tata wants to replicate that success with the electric Punch too. For now, let us delve into the details of this exciting comparison.
Kia Syros EV vs Tata Punch EV – Specs Comparison
Now, the exact details about the battery and range of the Kia Syros EV are not available yet. However, we can safely assume that it could borrow the smaller battery pack on offer with the Carens Clavis EV. This means it could carry a 42 kWh battery pack, which could offer a range of around 475-500 km on a single charge. In the Clavis EV, this configuration results in a decent 135 PS and 255 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. Using a 100 kW DC fast charger, this battery goes from 10% to 80% in just 39 minutes in the Clavis EV. It remains to be seen whether the Syros EV gets the exact specifications or with some minor tweaks since it is a much smaller vehicle.
On the other hand, the Tata Punch EV is available with two battery pack options – 30 kWh and 40 kWh. It offers a claimed range of 275-355 km on a single charge. Being a small SUV, the battery options ensure a wide range of prices to attract more customers. The maximum power and torque figures are 87-127 hp and 154 Nm, respectively. With a 65 kW DC fast charger, the EV can be charged from 20% to 80% in a matter of 26 minutes, which is quite handy on highway trips. In any case, we will need to wait for the exact specifics.

The upcoming Kia Syros EV has the potential to shake up the compact electric SUV segment if Kia manages to combine its feature-packed cabin with a competitive price tag. On paper, the Syros EV appears to have a clear advantage in terms of expected range, performance and premium equipment, while the Tata Punch EV continues to score heavily on affordability and accessibility. Tata’s BaaS model and attractive entry price make EV ownership easier for first-time buyers, whereas the Syros EV could appeal to customers looking for a more premium experience. Ultimately, the battle between these two could come down to whether buyers prioritize value for money or technology and driving range. The final verdict will depend on Kia’s pricing strategy, which could prove to be the biggest deciding factor.
