Mercedes CLA Class India Launch has taken place. Here are all the details of the new Audi A3 rival
Mercedes-Benz India launched the CLA Class sedan in India back in January 2015. The Mercedes CLA Class is the cheapest sedan in the company’s Indian line-up, sitting below the C Class sedan, and goes head to head with the Audi A3. The CLA45 AMG has also been on sale in India, but at almost Rs. 70 lakhs a piece, it isn’t really accessible to the entry-level luxury car buyers. Mercedes-Benz has now commenced local assembly of the sedan at its Chakan facility in Pune. This move has enabled the German auto giant to reduce the price by over a lakh and waiting periods for the CLA have also come down significantly. Along with the CLA, the GLA SUV will also be assembled locally and witnesses a price cut.
Price
Following are the revised prices of the CLA-Class (old prices mentioned in brackets):
- Mercedes Benz CLA Style – INR 30.70 lacs (INR 31.5 lacs)
- Mercedes Benz CLA Sport (Petrol) – INR 32.90 lacs (INR 35 lacs)
- Mercedes Benz CLA Sport (Diesel) – INR 33.90 lacs (INR 35.9 lacs)
The GLA 200 Sport can now be had for INR 33.90 lacs following the price cut

Specification
The CLA comes with two engine options. Powering the petrol variant is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged engine that has a maximum power of 181 BHP at 5500 RPM and a peak torque of 300 Nm between 1200-1400 RPM. The engine is mated with a seven-speed DCT .
The diesel CLA is powered by a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 134 BHP between 3600-4400 RPM and peak torque of 300 Nm between 1600-3000 RPM. This motor too comes mated with a 7-speed DCT.

Features
The Mercedes CLA will be the entry-level sedan in Mercedes India’s line-up, but in no way does that mean it would be devoid premium equipment and features. Safety features on the CLA will comprise of as many as six airbags, along with ABS, ASR and EBD. The car will come loaded to the gills with features like panoramic roof, Bi-xenon headlights, reverse camera and a premium 12-speaker Harmon Kardon audio system.
Design
The exteriors of the CLA Class follow Mercedes’ latest design language with slightly protruding grille with a big three pointed star in the middle flanked by projector headlamps with daytime running LEDs and a sloping coupe-like roofline. The rear is even better in terms of styling with sleek tapered back housing beautifully designed tail lamps with LED detailing. However, lower spec version could ditch the LEDs lamps for regular conventional bulbs to keep costs low. The interiors are again typically Mercedes and are identical to that of the A Class hatchback.
