Renault’s new MPV to challenge Maruti Ertiga will get a host of features!

The Renault RBC MPV is based on the modifies platform of the KWID and is going to use the same 1.0-litre engine with a turbocharger strapped for better performance.

We are all well aware of the fact that Renault is currently working on an MPV based on the KWID’s modified platform which it is going to launch in India this year itself. The product for the development of this project is reaching its closing stages as there have been a significant number of sighting of the test mule of this seven-seat vehicle from the French automaker in India. So far being referred to as the Renault RBC MPV, this vehicle, when launched will compete directly with Maruti Suzuki’s Ertiga.

Going by the spy images of Renault’s new MPV, we can say for sure that it will measure close to its arch-rival to be, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. And hence, is likely to get a similar amount of space on the inside. The second generation update of the Ertiga saw it coming with an all-new design, improved cabin layout and a whole array of features and creature comforts. All of this combined has made it an overall better looking and a premium offering than what it previous generation model was.

A recently published report in Autocar India states that Renault’s new MPV will match up to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in terms of its exterior design, features as well as safety kit on offer. The said vehicle is going to offer a dual-tone cabin, a touchscreen infotainment system, LED daytime running lights along with a multi-functional steering wheel which it will share with the Capture.

In addition to this, on the safety front, the new Renault MPV is going to offer dual airbags, ABS with EBD along with rear parking sensors as a standard fitment across all variants. Higher variants can even offer side and curtain airbags.

Based on the CMF-A+ platform which it shares with the KWID, it will get the same 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder engine which currently does its duty on the entry-level hatchback. However, for the MPV, Renault is going to strap on a turbocharger for added performance. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual gearbox along with a 5-speed AMT unit in select variants.

Since Renault’s new MPV is going to compete in the budget MPV segment, expect its prices to fall in-between the range of INR 7 lakh to INR 11 lakh.
