Pricing
It is a very well known fact that there is a significant price difference of at least Rs 1.3 lakh (ex-showroom) in the base petrol and diesel trim. Honda City petrol starts from Rs 9.94 lakh with the base trim SV and the top spec ZX trim will set you around Rs 14,28 lakh. While the diesel costing starts from Rs 11.24 lakh to Rs 14.31 lakh. All prices are mentioned above signify to the ex-showroom.

Magnificent Refinement
Honda uses the tried and tested 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol motor which has been favourite among car enthusiasts. It offers low NVH (noise, vibration and harshness) levels and its motor is the most refined in its segment. The diesel City was introduced in 2014 and uses the same 1.5-litre i-DTEC motor available in the Amaze. The NVH levels on higher speeds in the diesel have received quite some criticism and are not refined as the petrol.
Performance and Mileage
No doubt the 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine is better in performance. The petrol motor churns out 117 bhp of power while the diesel is limited to 99 bhp only. The mileage figures for the petrol comes at 17.4 kmpl and 25.6 kmpl for the diesel. Sure the latter provides higher efficiency but with the drop in fuel prices for both petrol and diesel, it is relatively more or the same unless someone with high monthly usage justifies the cost. Also with the upcoming emission norms, diesel cars will get more expensive while petrol ones will see a slight bump only.
Availabilty of Automatic Transmission
Honda City 1.5 i-VTEC comes with 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. However, the higher trim like VX and ZX does offer a CVT for those looking for convenient driving. In comparison to the diesel engine, it is only available with a 6-speed manual transmission only.

Mileage with the competition
Honda City petrol offers an ARAI certified mileage of 17.4 kmpl and it tops second after the Ciaz. If we talk about the real world mileage figures then Honda City offers better fuel economy than its competition Hyundai Verna, Toyota Yaris, Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento.
