Renault’s first full electric offering in India will be the Kwid EV which is expected to launch in India by 2022. It was first showcased at the 2019 Shanghai Motor Show and it is already in sale in China. While we still wait for some time before it arrives to our shores, we now have the specs of Renault Kwid EV.

The Renault Kwid EV uses a 26.8kWh battery pack that drives a permanent magnet synchronous motor which puts out 44PS of power and 225Nm of torque. It has a top speed of 105 kph and also comes with fast charging capabilities. The Kwid EV can charge from 30-80% in 30 minutes with a DC fast charger, while a normal AC charger will take around 4 hours to charge the battery from 0 to 100%.

The Kwid EV is based on the same platform as the regular Kwid – the CMFA platform. The only difference between the former and the latter is what’s under the hood. Also, Renault is preparing a facelift for the Kwid and not very surprisingly, the Kwid EV looks exactly similar to the upcoming facelift on the Kwid.

The cabin of the Kwid EV has also been designed in a similar way as the regular Kwid. The dashboard is dominated by an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It also gets 4G WiFi, voice recognition system, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and also Renaultโ€™s Easy Link smart connect system. Other smart features in the Kwid EV include an in-built air quality control system and a host of safety features like high temperature automatic cut-offย  to protect the battery pack.

The reason why Renault is delaying the launch of the Kwid EV in India is because they are waiting for the electric vehicle infrastructure to improve in India. Currently, customers can charge their vehicles only at home. Moreover, the delay could also mean that the Kwid EV could be based on the second-generation Kwidย in India. When launched, the Kwid EV will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki WagonR EV and some others from Tata and Mahindra slated to come in the near future.
