Hero has confirmed that India’s first BS-6 motorcycle, the Splendor i-Smart 110 will be launched tomorrow. The engine specifications have already been leaked.

Hero Motocorp has started its transition to the BS-6 norms, as its first updated model, the Splendor i-Smart is ready to be launched tomorrow, i.e 7th November. The updated model has already started reaching dealerships.

In June this year, Hero announced that it had received the BS-6 certification for Splendor i-Smart 110 from ICAT, as it was the first two-wheeler in India to receive the compliance certification, even earlier than the Activa 125.

The engine specs of the BS-6 compliant Splendor were recently leaked. To make the engine compliant, Hero has used Fuel Injection system. The 109cc air-cooled engine is now replaced by a slightly powerful 113.5cc engine.

The engine now produces 9.15 BHP at 7500 RPM, which slightly down by 0.35 BHP. This motorcycle continues with Hero’s i3S (Idle Start-Stop System) technology, which basically switches off the engine when the motorcycle is idle.

Hero has started introducing the i3S technology in other models like the Destini 125 and Hero Maestro Edge 125 scooter. The technology is helpful in increasing the fuel economy, by 10-20% margin.

For suspension, Splendor i-Smart will continue with telescopic forks at the front and 5-step adjustable shock absorbers at the back. For braking, 130mm drum brakes at both the ends are used, as there is no disc brake offered.

With the updated engine, expect the prices of Splendor i-Smart to increase by 10-15%, around Rs 6000-8000. It will continue to rival the likes of Bajaj Platina 110, Honda Dream Yuga, TVS Radeon and Yamaha Saluto. Meanwhile, Hero is going to discontinue some of its models ahead of BS-6 norms, including Achiever 150 and 100cc Splendor variants.
