Hero Motocorp (the erstwhile Hero Honda ) has always been known for producing bikes that are segment leaders or for making new segments in the two-wheeler segment. The Hero Splendor is the world’s largest selling motorcycle, the CBZ started a cult for affordable sportbiking of its own and our beloved Karizma does not need any introduction. But there’s one segment it had been missing on till now and that is the quarter litre segment. Even though the company is late to join the party, it has come up with something that is surely worth the wait. Hero Motocorp has just launched the Hero HX 250R bike which looks drop dead gorgeous to say the least and has mechanicals that would blow away the competition. It is expected to be launched in a few months of time, probably in early Q2 2015. Hero is said to be conducting extensive road tests on this motorcycle before launch.

What’s New?

In one word- Everything! The Hero HX 250R has a 249cc motor at its heart which is a single-cylinder four-stroke unit. The highlight is the fact that this motor produces a maximum power output of 31 BHP and a peak torque of 26 NM which is way more than any other quarte- litre bike on sale in the country, including the famed KTM 200 Duke. It is a fuel injected engine and gets mated to a 6-speed manual transmission which is a first for Hero MotoCorp. The 4-valve engine makes use of liquid cooling and the bike gets an underbelly exhaust like the KTM 200/390 Dukeย and the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS.

You get a 300 mm disc up front while the rear unit is a 200 mm one. The bike comes shod with Honda’s much famed Combi brake system ย which teams up with an optional ABS which is also a first for Hero Motocorp. The bike gets Pirelli Sport Demon tyres and the ย front tyre is aย 110/80/17 unit and the rear unit is a ย 140/70/17 one. The bike will do the 0-60 KMPH dash in about 2.7 seconds and the 0-100 KMPH sprint will come under 8 seconds before it maxes out at around 160 kmph.

It has a decent ground clearance of about 145mm and weighs merely 139 kgs and this will be one of the main factors boosting its performance. The futuristic styling, full fairing and twin headlamps make the bike look class apart to say the least. So if you were in the market for a sub Rs 1.5 lakh 200-250cc bike, I suggest you wait till the Hero HX250R hits the Indian roads and then make your choice, because from the looks of it the bike has a lot of potential.

Price

The bike will hit Indian roads by September 2014 with a price of around Rs 1.5 Lakhs which would put it right in the territory of the upcoming Bajaj Pulsar SS 200.
