One Wheeled Electric Bike

One Wheeled Electric Bike

There is no dearth of talent in our country as confirmed by this latest invention.

This homemade one wheeled electric bike, which is based on a KTM, can run 40 km on a single charge that costs just Re 1. One might think this is unbelievable. But there are young enthusiasts and engineers who have developed ingenious ways to achieve just about anything. India is home to the largest young population. Our demographic dividend is the highest in the world which essentially means that the popular under the age of 35 is the highest. That translates to a massive reserve of young population who are willing to work. Since not everyone can get a job, they deploy their skills and talents to perform such tasks on their own.

This video has been uploaded by Principle Of News on YouTube. It captures the reporter interacting with the BTech student who has created this bike. As seen from the visuals, he has taken a KTM motorcycle and removed the front tyre, engine and other components related to the engine. Instead, he has installed a hub electric motor inside the rear wheel that powers the one-wheeled bike. What is more impressive is the fact that it has gotten completely rid of the IC engine. There is a compact Li-ion battery that supplies power to the electric motor.

Talking about range, the student confirms that it could travel around 40-45 km on a single charge. It could be charged within 2 hours. That is incredibly affordable. Needless to say, he has focused on practicality rather than the range which makes sense since something like this could only be used in the city. Since there is no front tyre, it could do a 360-degree turn on its place. No turning radius is needed which is a boon when you wish to make U-turns in heavy traffic. Another cool aspect is that you don’t need to learn how to ride this. It is just like any regular bike. The motorcycle balances itself without needing you to do the extra effort.

What We Think

We are thrilled to introduce our readers to such talented youngsters. They are the future of our nation. We appreciate the kind of innovation they bring to the table. Also, what is even more impressive is the fact that they are environmentally conscious. Realising the pollution created by petrol and diesel, they are thinking in terms of electrification from the very beginning. That is a great sign. However, we would advise our readers to think of this as just a passion project because we reckon something like this might not be road-legal just yet. But are certain that the government will bring policies related to such urban mobility devices soon.
