Bharat NCAP has been announcing crash test results of popular SUVs for the past few weeks
Hyundai Tucson becomes the latest SUV to bag a full 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating. Tucson is the flagship SUV from Hyundai in India. While it is certainly not a mass-market product, it represents the best that the Korean auto giant has to offer. In fact, it has always been a popular niche vehicle for Hyundai loyalists for a while now. In its latest iteration, the SUV was launched in India in 2022. Over the last 2 years, it has done decently on the sales charts. It carries a potent powertrain, smooth transmission, the latest tech and convenience amenities and high safety standards to woo new customers. For now, let us take a look at the details of this latest case.
Hyundai Tucson Tested at Bharat NCAP
The Hyundai Tucson managed to score an impressive 30.84 points out of 32 in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) and 41 points out of 49 in the Child Occupant Protection (COP) category. Note that these are valid for both trims – Platinum and Signature. These scores were enough to reward it a full 5-star rating in both sections. The Tucson weighs 1,828 kg for the model which was tested. The SUV boasts tons of standard safety equipment including 6 airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts at the rear, seatbelt pretensioner, seatbelt load-limiter, airbag cut-off switch, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) (UN GTR No.8 / UNECE R140 / AIS-133), pedestrian protection (AIS-100) and seatbelt reminder (AIS – 145) as standard. Hence, the overall score was awarded correspondingly.

The Side Pole Impact Pole Test was rated โOKโ. Interestingly, the head, neck, pelvis, knees and tibias (left and right) protection of the driver was rated as good. However, the chest and abdomen protection was deemed adequate. On the other hand, the head, neck, chest, pelvis, knees and tibias (left and right) of the passenger boasted good protection. Only the passenger’s abdomen bagged adequate protection. This amounted to 30.84 points out of 32, resulting in a full 5-star safety rating.

In the COP section, the SUV bagged a Dynamic Score of 24 out of 24, a CRS Installation Score of 12 out of 12 and a Vehicle Assessment Score of 5 out of 13 for a total of 45 points out of a possible 49.
