Jeep Compass is known for its off-roading prowess and this short video clip shows how well it can handle the snow roads with its 4×4 drivetrain.

In this video clip, a Jeep Compass owner highlights its capabilities on roads enveloped in a thick blanket of snow. Jeep is a world-renowned SUV maker that can tread almost any terrain without breaking a sweat. Its Wrangler is arguably the best off-roader in the world that achieves such incredible feats. However, the premium mid-size SUV, the Compass also has some decent off-roading kits, especially in the Limited 4×4 variant that could conquer harsh terrains.

The registration plate of the Compass in the video reads HP (Himachal Pradesh), which receives heavy snowfall during the winters. The sheer mass of the snow gathered on the side and middle of the road in the visuals indicates that this video must have been shot during the peak winter season. The Compass is seen moving on an incline from a standstill atop fresh snowflakes. There are hardly any tracks on the road which eases driving on the snow a bit. Fresh snowfall provides a bit more traction compared to when it is completely frozen.

Nevertheless, the SUV doesn’t experience too much wheel spin or lost traction during the short patch it covers. A lot depends not only on the capabilities of the cars but also on the drivers. For driving in the mountains, it is advisable to have an expert driver who has the experience of driving in the snow. Since the driver seems to be a local, he is able to harness the full potential of the SUV’s capabilities.

Specs

The SUV in the video is the pre-facelifted model but has similar powertrain options as the current-gen version. This means that the Jeep Compass comes with both diesel and petrol powertrain options. The petrol is a 1.4-litre turbocharged unit that outputs 160 hp and 250 Nm of peak power and torque. The diesel, on the other hand, comes with a 2.0-litre mill churning out 168 hp and 350 Nm of peak power and torque respectively. Both these engines could be mated to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. The 4×4 drive system is available with only the diesel unit. The prices of the Compass start at Rs 18.04 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 29.59 lakh, ex-showroom.
