The Indian market had been anticipating the Compass Trailhawk for a long time now. The wait has been more than an year. For the Compass too, it has earned the ‘Trail-Rated’ badges for itself after a lot of rigorous testing. The Compass Trailhawk is a meant to go off-roading and has been specially designed to be doing so. It gets several modifications for that purpose and is one of the best off-road capable vehicles you can buy in the country in under Rs. 30 lakhs.
The Trailhawk debuts the diesel-automatic combination that Compass enthusiasts have been waiting for so long. The Jeep Compass Trailhawk gets a new 2.0-litre MultiJet Turbo II diesel engine which comes mated to a 9-speed torque converter unit. The new engine is already BS-VI compliant but it can also run fine on BS-IV fuel. The engine produces 170hp and 350Nm of peak torque.
For off-roading purposes, the Compass Trailhawk comes with re-profiled front and rear bumpers to improve the approach and departure angles. It also gets Jeep’s Active Drive 4×4 system, which is essentially a low-range gearbox, a rear locking differential, hill descent control and an additional Rock mode for the Selec-Terrain system. The ground clearance is a full 27 mm higher than the regular compass. The air intake has been set higher to improve the water wading capacity of the Trailhawk at 480 mm, up from the regular Jeep’s 405 mm. The suspension too has been reworked. Additionally, the Trailhawk also gets underbody skid plates and all-terrain Falken Wildpeak HT tyres (225/60-section).
New to the Jeep Compass Trailhawk is a engine auto start-stop function, cruise control, 7.0-inch multi-info display and all-weather floor mats. It continues with the regular 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple and Android connectivity, auto climate control and keyless go. However, the panoramic sunroof is an optional extra.
Also, to keep costs on check, Jeep has also subtracted few features that are offered in the Limited Plus trim and that includes a powered driver’s seat and auto headlamps and wipers. On the safety front, the Compass Trailhawk comes with six airbags, ABS, ESC, traction control, hill-start assist, electronic parking brake and reverse parking sensors and camera.
The Jeep Compass Trailhawk is scheduled to launch in India by July, 2019. When launched, the Trailhawk will be priced around an estimated Rs 24.5 lakh (ex-showroom). It will sit right at the top of the Compass range. And as said earlier, it is the best off-road vehicle you can buy in the country in under Rs. 30 lakhs. The Jeep Compass Trailhawk could very well be selling as hot cakes.
