The facelift version of the Kia Sonet will not have a CNG option. The new model will arrive on December 14, 2023. We’ve come across the test mule on numerous occasions, and it’s gearing up for direct competition with industry leaders such as the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, and Maruti Brezza. To distinguish itself from the competition, the Korean powerhouse intends to unveil a bolder design and incorporate cutting-edge technology and connectivity options. Additionally, the Sonet will feature Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to augment its active safety features. But, as per what we have got to know, there won’t be a CNG option. In a recent media interaction, Mr. Hardeep S. Brar, Vice President & Head of Marketing & Sales at Kia India, said that the carmaker doesn’t plan to come up with a CNG option for the Sonet facelift. The reason for this is quite simple. The compact SUV continues to offer a diesel engine. Therefore, people who are looking for a variant with low running costs can opt for Sonet. That is something not a lot of carmakers are offering in this segment. Therefore, the use-case for a CNG trim is covered by the diesel variant. Resultantly, the CNG model is not in the pipeline at the moment.

At the time, there were reports about Kia launching it since competitor like the Maruti Brezza also offer a CNG option. Now, though, Mr. Brar has cleared the air by confirming that the CNG Sonet won’t happen.
