Concerned by the low city mileage, some Mahindra Scorpio N owners have installed a CNG kit in their SUVs
In this post, we come across a review of the owner of a Mahindra Scorpio N with a CNG kit after 1 year of usage. Now, it is not all that common to see a large SUV like the Scorpio N with a CNG kit. Nevertheless, as aftermarket car modification houses become more and more professional, they start coming up with unique solutions to install CNG kits even on massive SUVs. This Scorpio N is the prime example of that. We covered this story last year, and now the owner has returned for feedback.
Mahindra Scorpio N with CNG Kit Review
This video stems from Easy Drive CNG on YouTube. The host showcases the white-coloured Mahindra Scorpio N, in which he had installed a CNG kit a year ago. This time around, the SUV owner has come to get CNG installed on his other car. However, this gives the host a great opportunity to interact with him about his ownership experience for one year. The Scorpio N owner is evidently satisfied and extremely happy about his experience. He mentions that there is hardly any noticeable difference when the car shifts from CNG to petrol.
What impresses me the most is that he claims that there is no difference in performance when driving on CNG. That is a bit hard to digest. Generally, CNG mills reduce the power and torque of an engine, which should affect the performance. In any case, the host explains the kind of components he has used in this Scorpio N. This includes things like a double-stage reducer, new ECM, new Japanese injectors, 12-litre cylinder, etc. Finally, the owner claims that he is able to drive it for around 160 km by using CNG and petrol worth Rs 885. With the kind of mileage he is getting in the city, he will barely get around 50 km drive when using petrol with this amount.
My View
With rising petrol prices and stricter emission norms, CNG cars are becoming a popular choice for Indian buyers. They offer lower running costs and are seen as a cleaner, cost-effective alternative, especially as many automakers phase out diesel models. A key advantage is their dual-fuel capability – drivers can switch to petrol when CNG runs out, reducing range anxiety. This makes them ideal for city use, where CNG stations are more common. As infrastructure improves, CNG cars are becoming more practical and convenient. Their growing popularity reflects a shift toward affordable, eco-friendly mobility in today’s changing automotive landscape.
