Mahindra has been dominating the electric SUV space at the moment with multiple products to woo customers
In this post, I am comparing the Mahindra XEV 9S and the XEV 9e on the basis of specs and price. Both these are incredibly compelling propositions from the Indian automobile giant. In the last couple of years, Mahindra has shifted its focus to electric mobility. Hence, its new sub-brands – XEV and BE – will take this approach forward with electric SUVs designed for global markets in addition to domestic space. The XEV 9e and BE 6 have done immensely well on the sales charts. This is a validation of their appeal and demand in India. Now, the XEV 9S has also been added to the portfolio.
Mahindra XEV 9S vs XEV 9e – Specs
The newly launched Mahindra XEV 9S comes with three battery pack options – 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh with claimed MIDC range of 521 km, 600 km, and 679 km on a single charge, respectively. These power an electric motor to generate a healthy 170 kW (231 PS), 180 kW (245 PS) and 210 kW (285 PS) of peak power, respectively. Interestingly, the torque remains similar at 380 Nm in each version. Also, the charging time is 20 mins to go from 20% to 80% using a 180 kW DC fast charger for 79 kWh and 70 kWh batteries. Furthermore, the same time is needed to achieve a similar SoC with a 140 kW DC fast charger for the 59 kWh battery. In the most aggressive settings, the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h comes up in just 7 seconds. The top speed is 202 km/h.
On the other hand, the Mahindra XEV 9e has two battery pack alternatives – 59 kWh and 79 kWh. These offer a claimed range of 542 km and 656 km on a single charge, respectively. The electric motor generates a decent 231 PS and 380 Nm with the smaller battery and 285 PS and 380 Nm of maximum power and torque with the larger one. With a 175 kWh DC fast charger, the battery charges from 20% to 80% in a mere 20 minutes. In its most powerful settings, the acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h comes up in just 6.8 seconds.

Mahindra XEV 9S vs XEV 9e – Price
The new Mahindra XEV 9S starts at Rs 19.95 lakh and goes up to Rs 29.45 lakh, ex-showroom. The entry-level trim could certainly benefit from this attractive introductory price. On the contrary, the Mahindra XEV 9e retails between Rs 23.01 lakh and Rs 34.03 lakh, ex-showroom. Clearly, the XEV 9S appears to be much more inviting in this regard.

My View
Choosing between these two compelling EVs is a matter of personal preference and your budget constraints. The XEV 9e bears a more coupe-like silhouette and costs significantly more than the new XEV 9S. Therefore, if budget is not an issue and you love to drive something truly unique, the XEV 9e makes a lot of sense. However, if you want a more practical vehicle with all the latest tech and convenience amenities and wish to save some money, the XEV 9S is a great buy. In any case, you can’t go wrong with either of these.
