The Mahindra XUV300 was launched in India recently. Its prices falls in-between the range of INR 7.9 lakh to INR 11.9 lakh (ex-showroom). With this, the Mahindra competes against the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Honda WR-V and the Tata Nexon. That said, it is the Vitara Brezza which currently rules the segment. In order to see if the new boy from the homegrown automaker can take on the well-established player from the Indo-Japanese automaker, we pitch these two vehicles against each other in this detailed specification comparison report.

Mahindra XUV300 Vs Maruti Vitara Brezza- Prices

The Mahindra XUV300 is priced starting from Rs 7.9 Lakhs to Rs 11.9 Lakhs. It comes with 4 variants in petrol and diesel guise each.

However, considering the fact that it competes in the sub-4-meter category with the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon, the starting price of Rs 7.9 Lakhs is decent. However, with the plethora of features on offer, the top-spec variant reaches Rs 11.9 Lakhs, which is higher than its segment rivals.

In comparison, the Maruti Vitara Brezza, available only with a diesel derivative is sold at a starting price of INR 7.58 lakh to INR 10.55 lakh. These prices are ex-showroom.

Mahindra XUV300 is available with petrol and diesel engines. The petrol variant uses a newly developed 1.2 Litre Turbocharged unit, which is capable of delivering 110 BHP and 200 Nm of peak torque.

The diesel derivative of this compact SUV is the same 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder engine which made its debut with the Marazzo MPV. This 4-cylinder unit is capable of churning out 120 BHP of power along with 300 Nm of peak torque. 

The automaker has confirmed that it is going to launch the XUV300 with an automatic gearbox. For the time being, both the petrol as well as the diesel engine come with a 6-speed manual transmission unit.

In contrast, the Maruti Vitara Brezza, as mentioned before is currently available only with a diesel engine under its hood. This engine is a Fiat-sourced. 1.3-litre unit capable of producing 88 BHP along with 200 Nm of peak torque. As standard, it comes with a 5-speed manual transmission along with 5-speed AMT unit.

There are speculations that Maruti Suzuki will introduce a petrol derivative of the Vitara brezza in the near future, The launch of the same is expected to happen sometime during the second half of 2019. The rumored engine could very well be a 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder unit capable of churning our 110 BHP along with 150 Nm of peak torque.

The 1.2 Litre petrol unit offers an ARAI claimed-mileage of 17 kmpl. The 1.5 Litre diesel engine offers 20 kmpl. The figures are comparatively lesser than some of its rivals.

For the Vitara Brezza, this sub-compact SUV’s diesel derivative claims an ARAI certified mileage figure of 24.3 km/l. In real-world conditions, this number could reach a figure of around 18-20km/l.

Mahindra XUV 300 is a sub-4 metre compact SUV. It measures 3995mm in length, 1821 mm in width and 1,627 mm in height while at the same time clocking a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. The boot capacity is likely to stand around the mark of 340-liters.

Moving on to the Maruti Vitara Brezza, this compact SUV measures 3,995 mm in length, 1,790 mm in height and 1,640 mm in width. It sports a ground clearance of 198 mm. The boot space stands at 328-litres.
