Maruti Invicto is the badge-engineered version of the already popular Toyota Innova Hycross which is on sale in our market.
The design of the Maruti Invicto has been revealed in the latest leaked photos. It is the badge-engineered version of the Toyota Innova Hycross as a part of the Joint Venture between Toyota and Suzuki. Until now, we have seen products like Glanza and Urban Cruiser which are Toyota’s versions of the Maruti Baleno and Brezza respectively. But this time around, Toyota is supplying the Innova Hycross to Maruti. This cooperation is in place to benefit from each other’s strengths. The bookings for the Invicto are now open for Rs 25,000 and the launch is slated for July 5. For now, let us take a look at what Maruti’s version of the Hycross would look like.

Maruti Invicto Design Revealed
Unsurprisingly, the overall design resembles that of the Hycross to a large extent. At the front, we witness the sleek LED headlamps that are in a swept-back fashion, prominent dual chrome slabs on the large radiator grille with a Suzuki logo at the centre, sporty bumpers with fog lamp housing on either side, a rugged skid plate area, stylish alloy wheels on the sides and a split-LED taillamp design at the rear. There is a roof-mounted spoiler and rear wiper visible in the images. Also, the lower half consists of a black bumper area with reflector lights on the extreme edges. All in all, it is not too different from the Toyota Innova Hycross.

Specs
Interestingly, the Maruti Invicto will only have the sole 2.0-litre strong hybrid petrol engine that makes 184 hp peak power that will be connected to an electric motor. The transmission duties will be carried out by an e:CVT automatic transmission for a smooth operation. The mild hybrid powertrain and manual transmission will be given a miss. For comparison, the prices of the Toyota Innova Hycross in its strong hybrid guise range from Rs 25.03 lakh to Rs 29.99 lakh, ex-showroom. Being an almost identical model, we could also expect the prices of the Invicto to hover around this range.

What We Think
Even though both products are essentially the same, it will all come down to factors like sales and aftersales services to determine which one will churn more volumes. There is simply no competition when it comes to the aftersales services and dealership network of Maruti Suzuki. It has been the largest carmaker in the country since its inception. No one has even come close to beating it ever since. Therefore, people outside the major cities will prefer Maruti’s version because they will have access to the dealership network and service centres. But again, how many people in such small towns will be able to afford a car worth over Rs 30 lakh, ex-showroom. Therefore, things will be quite interesting indeed.
