Maruti Suzuki is soon going to introduce an all-new micro-SUV and position it below the Vitara Brezza to compete against the Mahindra KUV100.

The segment of compact SUVs has in the recent past seen a massive increase in demand in India. Our country’s love for vehicles with butch appearance is increasing day by day resulting in manufacturers applying the formula to each and every segment. In addition to spawning sub-4-meter SUVs. this craze has now led to the development of micro-SUVs, vehicles which are essentially hatchbacks but sport an SUV-ish design as well as ride height.

Currently, the only player in this segment is the Mahindra KUV100. Despite its rather radical design, the same has found space in a considerable amount of homes in India. Observing this, other automobile manufacturers have now gone to the drawing board and started working on their respective iterations of Micro-SUVs. And one of those who has publicly announced the arrival of their version, by the end of this year, is Maruti Suzuki.

It is quite early to comment on the engine line-up of Maruti’s new Micro-SUV. However, we speculate that it is going to get only a petrol engine in its portfolio and miss out on a diesel. We say that because this vehicle is going to fall in-between the price range of INR 5 lakh to INR 7 lakh. And this being a budget segment, the cost of a BS-VI complaint diesel engine will well exceed the acceptable mark.
