The new Maruti small car named ‘Crosshiker’ might be launched in 2019 with Bharat VI engines. Crosshiker, with its launch, will take on Renault Kwid. It might become Maruti’s entry-level car.
Recently, there were several rumours regarding new Alto being launched. However, it is also speculated that Alto 800 might be replaced by the ‘Crosshiker’ for competition with Renault Kwid. Also, Alto K10 might become the new Alto with updated features and a BS VI compliant engine.
The Renault Kwid has turned out quite a successful player in the entry-level segment in India. However, the car is still far from becoming a segment leader which continues to be the Maruti Alto 800. Continuously growing in the segment, Kwid still takes away chunks of sales figures of Alto. Mainly because of its sporty looks and updated technology, it is still preferred by a lot of Indians.
The new Maruti Small Car, Crosshiker is expected to be priced between Rs 2.7 Lakh to Rs 4.5 Lakh (ex-showroom). The price, slightly higher than Alto, will provide for all the updated features and technology. The pricing will be perfect for any entry level as Kwid is also priced in the same range.
The plans on Maruti Crosshiker are not made yet, as it did not feature in the Auto Expo 2018 too. However, it is expected to be launched by mid-2019 after the passing of BS VI engines. Hence, it is too early to comment on the launch date in India.
The car might come in two engine variants – 796cc 3 Cylinder MPFI and 999cc 3 Cylinder MPFI. The 796 CC engine will produce 47.3 BHP worth power and 69 Nm worth torque. On the other hand, the 999 CC engine offers 67.1 BHP worth power and 90 Nm worth torque. It is expected that the top variant might also give an optional AMT. The mileage expected is anything between 22 KMPL to 24 KMPL. The engine will be shared by both the Alto twins and Crosshiker.
Although the design details of the new Maruti small car are still under the wraps, we expect it to feature SUV-like upright design and a high ground clearance. The car might get an aerodynamic design with LED headlamps and fog lamps as basic features. It is also speculated to come with a crossover design.
The new Maruti small car might bet proper fabric upholstery and classy interiors. Maruti will be giving a bigger cabin space to the car with comfort features like back seat headrests, armrests and such. The top end version might receive a lot of updates but yet it isn’t confirmed. The update might include new styled steering wheel, facelifted dashboard and more.
Renault Kwid offers a variety of features for an entry-level car. The top end variant offers touch infotainment system, digital clusters with gear shift indicators and the basic safety features. So, the new small Maruti car is expected to get modern updates like touch infotainment system, digital speedometer cluster, ABS, reverse parking assistant and daytime running lights. With these features, it can easily take on Renault Kwid.
