Latest spy shots confirm that Maruti Suzuki Ciaz will soon be launched with a new diesel engine, which will be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

As we know, Maruti Suzuki is soon going to upgrade its 1.3 Litre diesel engine to a bigger engine. Models like Ciaz, Ertiga, Vitara Brezza, Baleno and S-Cross will use the bigger engine, which will be BS-6 compliant.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz has been spotted testing with the new 1.5 Litre diesel engine. We can confirm that the diesel engine will be available with a 6-speed manual gearbox, probably without any optional automatic transmission.

As of now, no Maruti Suzuki model gets a 6-speed gearbox in petrol as well as diesel engines. All are available with 5-speed manual and an optional 5-speed AMT only.

The recent spy shot of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz with the new diesel engine shows the gear level. The reverse gear would use mechanism that comes in some of the newer cars.

The new diesel engine will be a 1.5 Litre motor, which produces 95 BHP at 4000 RPM and 225 Nm of peak torque at 2500 RPM. The current 1.3 litre unit produces 74 BHP and 190 Nm of peak torque.

The power and torque generation would be much higher than the current engine. Also, this in-house developed engine will be BS-6 compliant. Reportedly, all the updated BS-6 models will be launched by January 2020.

The new diesel engine might not be available with the same mild-hybrid system. The claimed fuel economy of the current engine stands at 28 kmpl, which might be down to 26 kmpl.

The new diesel engine will only come on the Delta, Zeta and Alpha variants. The base Sigma variant might be discontinued post BS-6 engines. Reports suggest that the LDi variant of Ertiga will be stopped soon.

Other than the new engine, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Ciaz will not get any changes. The current-generation Ciaz was launched just last year, which gave some significant visual changes, feature additions and a new petrol engine.
