Even though the Maruti Swift EV in this rendering looks production-ready, it's important to note that Maruti Suzuki has no plans of rolling out a Swift-based electric car any time soon.

Even though a Maruti Swift EV is nowhere in the pipeline, it’s interesting to see how it would look in the electric car livery

Carmakers are fast getting aggressive in the electric car segments. So far, Tata Motors has been at the top of the game with electric versions of the Nexon and the Tigor. Even Mahindra, which once had the first mover’s advantage, is working on a slew of electric SUVs. Meanwhile, Hyundai, Kia and MG have already rolled out their EV offerings. Maruti Suzuki, though, has been conspicuous by its absence. Even though test mules of WagonR electric were seen on several occasions, it’s a while before the carmaker rolls out its first EV offering. However, the rendering we have with us today gives us an idea of what a Maruti Swift EV would look like-

Maruti Swift EV Styling Updates

It is worth mentioning here that Maruti Suzuki showcased the full-hybrid version of the Swift back at Auto Expo 2020.  This vehicle is the closest the Swift has got to electrification and even at the global level, the carmaker has no plans of coming up with an EV version of current Swift. But if at all an e-Swift ever makes it to the market, it would make for a very strong rival to the upcoming Tata Altroz EV. The e-Altroz was showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 and seems to be close to making it to the market.

The Maruti Swift EV visualized in this rendering carries a handful of changes over the regular version. Up front, the artist has replaced the stock bumper with a new one. There are no more black plastic elements on the nose. The grille has been blanked off in true EV fashion. This is something that aids aerodynamics by lowering the drag coefficient. The original headlamps have been revised with Matrix LED elements for better illumination. In the side profile, the stock alloy wheels have been replace with bigger units that have a 5-spoke design and machine cut finish.

e-Swift Not in Pipeline

The brake calipers have been painted in neon yellow and an EV badge has been plastered on to the front fenders. The ORVMs have been replaced with sleek cameras to give the hatchback a futuristic touch. Furthermore, even the retractable door handles (a la Mahindra XUV700) add some more jazz to the small car. Other than this, there are no other visual changes. While mere a figment of artist’s imagination, we believe Maruti Suzuki should definitely consider working on a rival for the upcoming Tata Altroz.
