There has been a slight reshuffling at MG with price changes across its portfolio
The MG Windsor has experienced a price hike, while the Hector and Astor have become a bit cheaper. MG has been on a product offensive strategy for the past few months. It has introduced products across varied price ranges and segments in India lately. The most prominent examples are the M9 premium MPV and the Cyberster two-seat electric sports car. In the mass market, the Comet and Windsor are extremely popular, while the ZS EV continues to remain on sale. The Hector and Astor take care of the ICE department.
MG Windsor, Hector and Astor Price Changes
In the last year, MG has increased the prices of the Windsor EV incrementally. As per the latest announcement, some variants of the EV are now Rs 15,000 more expensive. Note that the entry-level model remains unchanged in terms of pricing at Rs 14 lakh. Over the course of the last year, the price of the top variant has gone from Rs 17.50 lakh to Rs 18.39 lakh, ex-showroom. Still, these are attractive prices, especially when considering the BaaS program under which the battery can be rented out for a monthly amount, depending on the usage.
On the other hand, the MG Hector and Hector Plus have witnessed a drastic change in the opposite direction. In August, these SUVs boast impressive price cuts of up to Rs 1.87 lakh and Rs 2.03 lakh, respectively. These are some massive figures. Apart from that, the MG Astor can be had with a price reduction of up to Rs 2.03 lakh in August after a hike of Rs 1.30 lakh in April. These are evidently some pretty enticing numbers, which might pull some fresh customers towards MG SUVs over the competitors.
My View
Price reduction is always a great way to create demand and excitement among car buyers. This is particularly true in a price-conscious market like India. MG has done reasonably well on the sales charts in our market despite stiff competition from everywhere. However, the BaaS program has intrigued a lot of new customers, which is reflected in the EV sales. Hence, I believe most potential buyers won’t mind this minor price hike on the Windsor. On the other hand, the Hector and Astor will definitely interest many customers in this price segment. Let us see how the sales numbers get affected by these price changes.
